Learn about advanced voter targeting with logical operators on Vottiv

Vottiv offers advanced voter targeting capabilities that enable campaigns to precisely identify and reach their desired voter segments. By using logical operators such as AND, OR, NOR, and AND NOT, campaign managers can create complex voter groups tailored to specific strategic needs. This article will explore how to leverage Vottiv's advanced targeting features and provide examples of sophisticated voter groups to enhance your campaign efforts.

Understanding Logical Operators

Logical operators enable you to combine multiple criteria to form complex voter groups. Here's a brief overview of each operator:

  • AND: Selects voters who meet all specified criteria.
  • OR: Selects voters who meet at least one of the specified criteria.
  • NOR: Selects voters who do not meet any of the specified criteria.
  • AND NOT: Excludes voters who meet all of the specified criteria from the selection.

Creating Complex Voter Groups

To effectively target specific voter segments, you can combine these logical operators in various ways. Here are some examples of complex voter groups you can create on Vottiv and the strategic advantages they offer:

Unified Base Group with Single Exclusion

Example: Targeting low income frequent voters, but excluding those with high approval of the Biden administration.
Include: Voters who voted in at least 2 out of 3 of the last general elections (2022, 2020, 2018) AND Income < $50,000
Exclude: High Approval of the Biden Administration

Note: In this case, using AND NOT or NOR would have the same effect

Simple Segmented Base Group

Target two distinct voter segments in a single group
Include: Republicans OR Veterans

Complex Segmented Base Group

Target two distinct voter segments in a single group with multiple conditions in each segment.
Include: College-educated Republicans OR Veterans over the age of 55

Unified Base Group with Conditional Criteria

Target voters who match both criteria groups:
Criteria group 1: The voter must be a Republican AND a Catholic
Criteria group 2: The voter must be either a veteran OR over the age of 55

Segmented Base Group with Multiple Exclusion (All Must Be True)

Target voters who match either Criteria group 1 OR Criteria group 2, but exclude voters who match Criteria group 3.

Criteria group 1 (include): Voters are Republican AND Likely Veterans
Criteria group 2 (include): Voters are over the age of 70 AND are low income
Criteria group 3 (exclude): Voters who are registered Democrats AND have voted in 6 of the last 6 elections.

6. Segmented Base Group with Multiple Exclusion (One Must Be True)

Include: Voters who match either Criteria group 1 OR Criteria group 2
Exclude: Voters who match either Criteria group 3 OR Criteria group 4

Criteria group 1: Voters are Republican AND Likely Veterans
Criteria group 2: Voters are over the age of 70 AND are low income
Criteria group 3: Voters who are registered Democrats AND have voted in 5 of the last 6 elections.
Criteria group 4:
Voters who are registered Unaffiliated or Independent AND have not voted at all in the past 2 years.
